Constitutional therapy

Fundamentals of constitution therapy: healing through individual balance

Theory of constitution
A person's constitutional situation is the basis for health stability and susceptibility to illness.

Chronic illnesses in particular almost always arise on a constitutional basis. In the case of acute illnesses, the constitution determines the course of the illness and the ability to heal.

A constitution does not mean that a person will inevitably suffer from a
will fall ill with certain ailments. Rather, by taking constitutional aspects into account, it is possible to assess how and to what extent someone reacts to various influences and stresses. This is also referred to as a disposition, i.e. the tendency to certain illnesses. Most illnesses are therefore caused by a combination of a disease stimulus (stress, pathogens, incorrect exposure, malnutrition, environmental influences ...)
and the constitution.

The constitution as the sum of innate characteristics is influenced by many factors - especially environmental factors. The weakest organ reacts first to pathogenic stimuli - the stimulus threshold varies from person to person.

The ability to influence the constitution is what constitutional medicine uses: it tries to create individual conditions in order to increase the stimulus threshold.

Various naturopathic methods have always played a role in this:
Improvement of lifestyle and diet, elimination procedures, special constitutional remedies.

It is helpful to know your own constitution in order to influence it positively as early as possible. Taking constitutional aspects into account plays a decisive role in constitutional medicine, both in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses.
It is therefore possible that one and the same illness requires different treatment in people with different constitutions.

Costitutional therapy
Various diagnostic procedures such as iris, tongue, pulse and countenance diagnostics help me to determine the constitution. Supporting and improving the constitutional situation is therefore an approach whose importance cannot be overestimated. The The most important and most differentiated method of constitutional diagnostics is the ophthalmologic or Iris diagnosis.

The constitution can be positively supported and strengthened by remedies such as teas, tinctures, ointments and potentized remedies in combination with the appropriate therapeutic procedures.

During an initial consultation, I take the time to assess your current complaints, your medical history and your life circumstances and use various diagnostic procedures to find a constitutional therapy that is tailored to you.

The naturopathic therapist incorporates the constitutional types into his treatment concept together with other naturopathic and conventional medical diagnostic procedures. The aim of the therapy is to support the body's resilience and thus achieve an improvement in the state of health. The aim of constitution therapy is to contribute to the harmonization of the entire organism by strengthening and regulating it at the same time.

It is important to consider the 3-pillar system in the treatment concept:

  • Constitutional therapy (stabilization & support of the constitution)
  • Symptomatology (treatment of current symptoms & complaints)
  • Prevention

The division into different Constitutions
In all cultures of the world, the constitution was included in the treatment of illness.

Indian medicine (Ayurveda) recognizes the 3 types Kapha, Pitta and Vata. In our western medicine, the classification of constitutional types is based on the teachings of humoral pathology, the theory of humors.

Hippocrates distinguished between four humors:

  • Blood
  • Slime
  • yellow bile
  • black bile

Around 2000 years ago, the Greek physician and anatomist Galen assigned four temperaments to these four humors, which relate to a person's character traits: He differentiated between sanguine, phlegmatic, choleric and melancholic, depending on the dominant bodily fluid.

Each of these temperaments has a tendency towards certain diseases and reactions - so there are 4 constitutional types: While the often cheerful sanguine tends to suffer from circulatory diseases, the quick-tempered choleric and the frequently brooding melancholic are more likely to suffer from diseases of the liver-bile system.

The rather sluggish and inactive phlegmatic person tends to react slowly and weakly to physical suffering.

He has a predisposition to mucous diseases of the respiratory tract.

Kretschmer, on the other hand, differentiated the constitution according to physique:

  • leptosome type - narrow and thin
  • athletic type - broad shoulders and clearly visible muscles
  • pyknic type - stocky figure with a big belly
  • dysplastic type - combination of different body shapes

Empirical medicine shows that treatment is more successful if the constitutional types are taken into account during treatment. For example, pycnics with diabetes mellitus react differently to insulin administration than people of the leptosomal type. The choice of the right diet should also
the body types must be taken into account. Leptosome types often cannot tolerate raw food, while the athletic movement type can consume larger amounts of raw food without any problems. Pycnics, on the other hand, should avoid too sweet and too fatty foods. food.
