Orthomolecular therapy (Greek "orthos" = good, correct; Latin "molekula" = small mass, particle) aims to correct a nutrient deficiency in the body by taking the appropriate nutrients or vital substances (e.g. vitamins, minerals).
Possibly origin under more?
Origin Orthomolecular therapy goes back to the American biochemist, two-time Nobel Prize winner and "vitamin C pope" Linus Pauling (1901-1994), who first used the term in 1968. Based on his research, he was convinced that taking high doses of vitamins could maintain health and prevent illness. In 1971, he published his book "Vitamin C, colds and flu". In addition to other micronutrients, he himself consumed 12 grams of vitamin C a day, which is equivalent to the content of over 300 oranges. Since 1978, orthomolecular therapy has been
recognized in America as an official therapy method.
In 1980, the Swiss Dr. Lothar Burgerstein opened the first medical practice for orthomolecular medicine in Rapperswil, and in 1982 he published the first German-language textbook on this method. Since then, orthomolecular therapy has also become established in Europe, with the Burgerstein preparations being particularly well known throughout Switzerland.
Basics
Many biological substances such as vitamins and minerals,
Trace elements or amino acids are responsible for maintaining the body's biological functions. These substances are normally ingested with food or synthesized by the body itself.
Orthomolecular therapists assume that today it is hardly possible to absorb these vital substances through food because food only contains a fraction of the substances originally present due to unnatural cultivation, transportation, storage and preparation.
A deficiency of biological substances can be exacerbated by an incorrect or unbalanced diet, stress, illness, pregnancy or environmental toxins, for example, and can result in health problems.
