Tongue diagnostics

Tongue diagnosis has its origins in traditional Chinese medicine

Tongue diagnosis

The tongue is a "reflex field", an indicator of internal physiological or pathophysiological processes. Tongue diagnosis reveals the condition of the blood, organs and body fluids as well as any malfunctions.

What does tongue diagnostics detect?

Tongue diagnosis has its origins in traditional Chinese medicine, but is also used in naturopathy. It is believed that the tongue is closely linked to the internal organs, the blood, the body fluids, the meridian system and the life energy Qi. The tip of the tongue therefore corresponds to the heart and lungs, the middle to the spleen and stomach, the edges to the liver and gall bladder and the base of the tongue to the bladder, kidneys and intestines.

I look at the tongue and assess the tongue body (thick, thin, swollen, color, cracks, mobility), tongue coating (distribution, thickness, color, presence or absence) and moisture (dry or moist).

All of this information is highly informative about the patient's state of health, as any change can be a sign of illness. This makes it possible to quickly identify malfunctions, but also to determine the cause of the symptoms a patient is showing.

In the medium term, the tongue reflects the body's current fluid situation with its color, coating, moisture, size and mobility. It can change within days to weeks.

This property makes it possible to predict the course of the disease based on humoral pathology models.
